"It really doesn't matter what you're doing. You could be the best at anything; but if nobody ever gives you a shot, then you're just the best at that..in your own little world..." - DJ Ekin
Our belief is that the job market is getting more and more congested by the day and as the years progress, a bachelor's degree will become as common as a high school diploma is now with regard to separating viable candidates in the job market. The power of building relationships and developing a personal touch goes unmatched. Incorporating professional and inspiring speakers coupled with a wide array of motivational events, ConnXions seeks to get young people connected with each other, so that collectively they can address the issues and needs within their communities and beyond.
Network to Network:
A How-To Guide on Networking
ConnXions purpose is in line with Family and Youth Services Bureau (FYSB) core principles. This approach simply means that we are reinforcing young people with additional tools for the future. Outside of gaining the conventional high school and college education there is a "Hidden Curriculum" which if not understood and refined can spell disaster to the novice professional no matter what level of education he or she has attained. Preparation for understanding curriculum on this level gives way to unconventional thinking, propelling our youth aspiring to become successful by equipping them with knowledge of what is not taught but yet expected to be understood. This thinking, compounded with traditional education is a formula that when used, will position them for success. Positive exposure to appropriate behaviors and professional courtesy as well as practice in building strong relationships, will enable and empower students to reach their full potential. As the FYSB purpose suggest, (it) "is the best way to prevent them from engaging in risky behaviors. When young people have the chance to exercise leadership, build work ethic skills, culminating with practical application, they gain self-confidence, trust, and practical knowledge - qualities that help them grow into healthy, happy, self-sufficient adults."
